or Why You Should Be Publishing Your Own? By Jim Turner, MBA ********************************* Why is that? It's because newsletter create a win-win situation for everyone involved. That includes the publisher, the advertiser and the subscriber, assuming that the publication provides value to the subscriber. I need to make a point of clarity here. The key to your success as publisher is you subscribers. If we had to break it down to the least common denominator, that would be it. You must have subscribers. Without subscribers you would not have any advertisers. Without advertisers, you would be missing out on one of your key streams of income, advertising revenue. So, what is it that a newsletter provides? 1) It provides information to the subscriber that brings some form of value. Something that he can put use and benefit from. 2) It is a vehicle whereby advertisers can get their ads in front of highly targeted markets. Meaning prospects who are very intersted in what the advertiser has to sell as well as what the publisher has to say. 3) You, the newsletter publisher can 'push' market your products and services plus earn revenue from the sale of advertising space. The three factors that I just covered, are what the *rage* is about. Let's probe a little deeper into each "newsletter provision" to get a better understanding of what's going on from a marketing position. My intention, is that when you finish this article, you will be ready to take the next step toward publishing your own newsletter, if you are not already doing so. If you are publishing an newsletter, you will have identified some other means to add to your profit picture. A) Subscribers Get Valuable Information Why do you subscribe to newsletters? You're doing it for the information that you are going to get access to, related to a subject of interest to you. You are more than likely interested in finding out about how to market your products on the Internet via email. As long as the newsletter continues to provide the information that you are seeking, you will remain a subscriber. The same goes for other subscribers. This leads to growth for that publisher's newsletter. These subscribers will even tell their friends and associates about the newsletter. Other publishers will recommend different newsletters to their own subscribers, if they feel that the newsletter offers something of value to their list of subscribers. That's what's feeding the growing proliferation of new newsletters today, many of them covering the same topic. Newsletters are an easy way to receive information instead of spending your valuable time looking for it. That's why I subscribe to so many of them. You can get a virtual "degree" in Internet marketing, simply by building the proper portfolio of newsletters, ensuring that you cover all the topics of Internet marketing. They are delivered right to your email box daily, weekly, biweekly, monthly, bimonthly or quarterly. It's no wonder why they're the hottest thing going on the Web today! B) When You Advertise, You Reach a Highly Targeted Market When you are marketing on the Internet, it's a numbers game. This means that the more prospects you get your ads in front of the greater the odds are that you will make sales of your products or services. Assuming that you have carefully chosen a newsletter that caters to subscribers who would be interested in what you have to sell, your ad has a much greater chance of generating a response. Why? Because the subscribers have chosen to receive the newsletter. As an advertiser, you must be cognizant of the readers of that publication. The number of subscribers is not necessarily the main factor. That's not to say that, you don't want to go for the numbers. But you do have to have a sense for how targeted the audience is. Case in point... I ran an ad in
one of the larger, more popular newsletter around. And to my dismay, I
did not receive one response. The same ad was placed in a newsletter
of about 5,000 subscribers and there were approximately 60 responses.

Think of the possibilities to market your product if you had a list of several thousand email addresses that you could mail to once or twice a week. Also, take into consideration the fact that these are people that have had some type of contact with you before. They know who you are; they realize that you have not scammed them out of their money before. Because if you did, you would lose them as a subscriber. This is part of the magic of newsletter publishing. Your list is a very targeted list and if you offer something to them that is related to the topic of the list, you have a collection of highly qualified prospects. If used properly, you could generate
a steady monthly income from You become even more credible
if you create a lot of the content All the reading and research that you've done over the months and years, while developing your business, is valuable information and people want it. Producing an ezine makes that list of subscribers aware of the fact that you do know a lot about the topic and in return you become a credible person. There are profit-making opportunities in producing a newsletter. Many of the veteran publishers are seeing six-figure revenues coming in from advertising alone. In a previous article, it was mentioned that Joke A Day brings in over $150,000 a year in ad revenue. This is not the case for all ezines. But there are many who are making a very substantial income from ad revenue. As your newsletter subscriber list grows, you will find that by offering sponsorships and classified advertising, you can get a big boost in your online profits. One strategy that is very effective
in helping you increase your subscriber base is trading ad space with
other publishers who are Using the ad space in your ezine as a bartering tool is as good as producing ad revenue, you're getting other types of services or products just for giving up a little space in your ezine. If you develop most of the content for your newsletter, which I recommend that you do, you can gain even more credibility by getting your articles published in other ezines and on the web site of other publishers. When you do this, you get the opportunity to insert a four to six line resource box at the end. This is simply an ad space that you can use to promote your newsletter or some service that you offer. The best use of this space is to offer something free to the reader that requires him to either email you or visit your web site to get the freebie. This allows you to capture their email address for future follow up. This has worked well in helping to increase my subscriber base. Now you see why ezines or newsletters
